My Dear Stranger/Friend,
It was a pleasure to offer you my chair in the club. You looked uncomfortable standing there. I did it to be polite, but it made me happy to see your face express relief when you sat.
The few minutes chatting helped to pass the time as we waited for our train’s track to be announced. I did not start the conversation as I appreciate silence. It was your decision to open the chat. You were, however genial, somewhat interesting and engaging.
The gentleman next to me, also enjoyed our collective, brief laughs.
Once again, politeness guided me to step aside as you gathered your bags. I understood the need for a little extra space as you consolidated your things.
When I said “there we go!” after the track was finally announced, there was one small thing, I didn’t understand.
Well, it was the physical shove to get past me and run out the door ahead of me as I turned to exit. How odd to meet your shoulder and elbow in that way and at such a time.
Now as you sit only two seats away for the next 3 hours, I wonder – does small talk lead to aggression or is it the other way around?
I will forever sit in befuddlement.
With the greatest regard,
me.
PS – Please tie your shoe.
