Forgetting the “Never Forgets”

Since we’re all friends here, I’m going to let you in on a secret.

I can’t remember all of the individual horrific incidents in history that I am supposed to “never forget”. It’s stressing me out a little.

Just figuring out what days the postal service is closed and whether the office is open on a particular Monday requires me to look at a calendar — and that’s for the “never forgets” that have a corresponding holiday.

It seems I learn of a new thing I’m never supposed to forget on a daily basis. Some of these incidents I don’t really know much about, despite my voracious curiosity for understanding as much as possible about the world around me.

If I string these all together, I think the total of things I’m not supposed to ever forget would exceed the number of Hindu holidays — and there are more of those than there are days in a year.

I’ll have to figure out the specific time I’m supposed to remember a “never forget” and the appropriate amount of time to remember that thing, so I can start remembering the next thing a timely fashion.

With all this remembering, I’ll likely have to consider time zones, which is going to mess with my sleep as well.

I apologize in advance if I forget a specific “never forget” incident.

So here’s the deal. Just to be safe, I’ll demonstrate love and respect for everyone regardless of circumstance or background. I’ll try to understand people’s point of view without judgement or prejudice.

And I’ll try to remember as much as I can.

Deal?
