Heroes and the Not-so-Heroic

I often ask for ridiculous and impossible things.

I also know I ask for ridiculous and impossible things.

That is why I ask for help.

So when the heroette (that’s a teeny tiny hero who wants you to know how excruciatingly hard their job is) sat in my office yesterday outlining all of the challenges presented by my request, they were out of luck. It was only scheduled as a 30 minute meeting.

By the way, this was not a current or past coworker.

The next person came in, laughed and said “you know that’ll cost more, right? Here’s what it will take …”

Guess who got the contract.

My rule is that no one ever won gold making something look difficult.

How many times have you watched the Olympics and thought “I could do that”. Well, unless you are a global class athlete, no you can’t. They are just so good that it looks easy.

While I’m at it, the other tedious person is the “narrator” – you know the one who sends notes to the boss with giant cc lists reporting on their work. They do it so they should report more of their day too or they will look bad. Here’s a secret — coworkers of the narrator: Your boss sees through it and you should not fear the narrator. Probably means they don’t have enough to do.

I have been lucky to have amazing teams. That is why I am amused to run across the heroettes and narrators. They often invade my world from other peoples’ teams.

Not that I’m complaining. I’m paid to deal with that.
