The Birdman of Craigslist

I try to tell only my own stories here, but this week heard one worth repeating.

To start, I do not doubt the veracity of the story as the teller has never been one to make up tales. He has in fact been a true life character in some of my own true, but odd stories.

It’s a bird story. Goes something like this.

His brother had a bird. He loved that bird. During the day it was let to fly free in the house, then caged at night. The little bird would sit on his shoulder sometimes (no, not a parrot and he is not a pirate).

One day through circumstances unimportant, the bird flew away, outside.

Catastrophe!

He put an ad on craigslist. My friend found that odd – well also odd was the level of affection for the bird. Ok and the bird itself.

Anyway.

One day the brother had loaded into the car for a drive, and upon being asked, said he was driving somewhere in response to someone who claimed to have found the bird.

Concerned, my friend cautioned him about Craigslist people and about the zero probability that someone miles away ( relayed as 40 miles, but let’s even call it 20) had seen the ad, found the bird, and with no sinister intent contacted him to return it.

When the brother arrived at the address and identified himself, the bird flew over and sat on his shoulder.
