The Misfortunes of Misspellings

Walking past a just-opened Christmas fair earlier this week, it occurred to me the different meaning one could take from seeing a long haired, unshaven man leaning on a wall smoking a cigarette in front of a business.

You’e seen these. The Fair consisted of a few blocks of temporary stalls, each having made a nice sign, customized to communicate the nature of the business.

For example, a wonderful-smelling stall had a highly-stereotypical frenchie-looking sign that said “Le Creperie”. A few stalls down, a wonderful-smelling stall had a sign similar in style, but with what could only be an unfortunate typo:

“Jean’s Creeperie”

If said gentleman described earlier were in front of one, I would think “wow, an authentic customer!”.

In front of the other? “uh. Is that an authentic product?”

I hope Jean has had a new sign made by now.
