Go ahead. Mock me. But I’m Right.

Massive generalizations to follow …

Millennials: A love story … or 1984, the year hope was born:

– I believe we’re watching the last gasp of the boomers’ power structure, grudges and resentments
– My generation (X) is the one fighting boomers’ old battles, but without the collegiality & civility the boomers showed
– My generation is the petuant crowd playing scorched earth politics in government
– It’s my generation running around insisting on a meaner America, calling people snowflakes
– It’s my generation who are the parents calling employers and teachers to argue over lost jobs or bad grades
– Sure, there are obnoxious millennials (thinking of a few internet celebrities here), but their audience tends to be my generation, not their peers
– Millennials get a bad rap undeservedly.

At this point, I think I have a strong enough sample to generalize that many:

– Millennials don’t understand racism. It isn’t that they aren’t racist, they don’t even understand why someone would be
– Millennials are each other’s keeper (they generally look out for each other)
– Millennials are incapable of tolerating hypocrisy
– Millennials are less class-conscious, less materialistic and more likely to share
– Millennials are independent-minded and can’t stand the boomers & x’ers culture of power & dominance
– Millennials don’t understand why someone would test the earth’s tolerance for pollution and environmental abuse
– Millennials are healthier – they eat their fruits & veggies and generally despise fast food
– Millennial peer pressure tends to be toward being a good global citizen rather than an evil doer.

Therefore …

– Many cherished institutions & customs will die because of millennials
– Not at the hands of a cruel tyrant who destroyed them, but the dignified death of ideas past their usefulness replaced by ideas delayed too long
– Part of my X’er role in the world is to make sure we make it until it’s millennials turn to be in charge
– Part of my X’er role in the world is to help millennials get to the point where they are ready to be in charge
– Part of my X’er role is to try to pas along values that I believe are important
– Part of my X’er role is to try to make sure that as many millennials as possible regardless of race, geography or economic standing are able to participate in the future

Yes, I for one welcome our future millennial overlords.
